The Story of Galaxy Zoo

Some of you on the forum might remember Devin Powell asking to interview some of you to write the story of Galaxy Zoo. The resulting article is now online here. It’s a wonderful piece:

Amateur Hour

In a modern twist on the centuries-old tradition of the backyard astronomer, thousands of galaxy gazers around the world have plugged in to become keepers of the Galaxy Zoo.

Enjoy!

Edit: the magazine cover is wonderful too!

Brilliant. Catches the spirit of things.

The graphics should be used for Zoo 2, when that’s ready.

Wow! And I’d only just given up hope and unstickied the thread!

For the record, I never watch TV and never used to more than about once a year, so it’s not difficult to prefer GZ to that. And I first read about the project on Chris’s website, and asked him about it about a month later. 😀

I love the stories about everyone, though! This rocks!

    Brilliant job Devin!

Hey, another thing I might add that I do not remember saying (sorry to write this here, but there doesn’t seem to be a comments page there): “Eager to help the cause of science (and to put off doing her schoolwork), Sheppard opened a web browser and pulled up the site.”

If I had any choice, I wouldn’t have agreed to that being said about me. I have left the teaching course now, but I certainly hadn’t when I was interviewed, and I object to being cast in such a bad light potentially in front of children I was supposed to be teaching.

I don’t want to be annoying but, it’s “Voorwerp”, not “Voorwoop”. 😉
