If at first you don't succeed…

So it’s been a busy 24 hours at Galaxy Zoo.  As we outlined in the earlier posts were working hard on unifying the Galaxy Zoo and Galaxy Zoo forum accounts. During the merge we had to disable the forums and new registrations on the Zoo so that we could be sure of exactly who was registered where.

So 24 hours later and with some tired eyes I’m sorry to report that we ran into a few technical difficulties with the merge. Specifically, the tests we had in place for checking the post-merge user accounts showed us that we had some problems. It’s of prime importance to us that we get this right and once we’d done the merge we weren’t completely satisfied that things were exactly as they should be.

So what next?

We’ll by now you should see that the forums are back up again as are new registrations on the Zoo and so we’re back to how things have always been. We’re going to review what happened yesterday, figure out what went wrong and then have a go again in the next week or so. Watch this space!

Cheers

It wasn’t all bad – Yesterday was the busiest day on irregulars since Zoo 2 about 1500 clicks compared with a recent average of about 50.

I got in for a few minutes this morning, but then got a session error and it won’t let me back in. Can sign into GZ for classification etc without problem but not the forum. Help! Thought my withdrawal was over and now it’s back again…

Ah, this time I got a maintenance mode message, so I guess I’ll have to try later…

By sheer coincidence there was an important update released while we were down, so I sneaked that one in this morning at the same time as bringing the forums back up. A few very eager people will have experienced a few problems but it should all be running smoothly now, better than ever.

Well done to the technical geniuses anyway. And good luck for next time. Theory and practice never work out the same! Thanks for keeping us up to date!

THE USERNAME AND THE PASSWORD FOR THE GALAXY ZOO AND THE FORUM
    ARE NOT THE SAME.
COULD THAT BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE TO MERGE THEM.

  7. 1000GGG says :

THE GALAXY ZOO AND THE FORUM ARE SEPAERATE PAGES.
THERE ARE SEPERATE USERNAME AND PASSWORD FOR EACH.

Galaxy Zoo and Forum are seperate pages.
A possible way to make it work.
Eliminate On Time and the Logout for the Forum.
Once Loged on you could not Logout.
    You could close the page.
You could Log on and out of Galaxy 2.
From Galaxy 2 you could return to Forum .
Do not know if that would work or what PROBLEMS that would cause.

  10. 1000GGG says :

If computer is turned off and then on Forum does not stay loged on.
it works if computer is kept on.
